Local Information

The Mar Menor is a huge (135 square kilometres) salt-water lagoon, separated from the Mediterranean by the 24 kilometre long La Manga del Mar Menor.

The Mar Menor's salinity provides buoyancy so it is, supposedly, one of the safest places to swim in the world. The mineral-rich waters are said to have therapeutic effects and because of this the area has a significant spa tourism industry. The sludge in the salt pans is also credited with beneficial effects on the health, so there are often dozens of mud people wallowing in it at any one time!!!

La Manga Club La Manga (the sleeve), is a narrow strip of land made up of volcanic reefs, dunes and white sandy beaches. Since its discovery in the '60s, La Manga has been developed as a holidaymaker's paradise, with countless hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, entertainment and leisure facilities.

Occupying a 1,400 acre site, La Manga Club is a popular year-round training ground for international athletes and sportsmen, and hosts many sporting events. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate the sun shines for more than 300 days a year, even Winter seems more like Spring.

This enviable climate, the unparalleled setting and first-rate facilities are key to making it 'one of the world's greatest resorts', and due to the climate, the perfect destination at any time of year.
